Children dehydrate more easily than adults. Choosing a safe source of water and building the habit early is worth a parent's attention.

Children have a higher proportion of water in their bodies and move around more, so they dehydrate more easily than adults — especially in hot weather, or when they have a fever or an upset stomach.
Choose a safe source of water
- Use bottled or jug water from a traceable source, with the seal intact.
- Check the label, the use-by date and the condition of the jug before use.
- Clean the dispenser and any storage container regularly.
Build the habit
- Give your child their own bottle to take to school.
- Remind them to drink after playtime and after PE.
- Cut down on fizzy drinks and offer plain water instead.
